In this week's "North By Southwest" Nicolas Jackson attends the Hay Festival Segovia. Now in it's 8th year, the annual literary event gathers together writers and thinkers from all over the world and is the Spanish edition of what has become a global network of literary festivals, from the original version in Hay-on-Wye, Wales, to India, Colombia, the Maldives, Kenya, Mexico, Hungary, Ireland, Bangladesh and Lebanon. In the first of a two-part feature from Hay Festival Segovia, we discuss the intricacies of the crime fiction genre with Val McDermid, whose books have sold over 10 million copies and been translated into more than 30 languages. She has been awarded the prestigious Crime Writers Assocation Cartier Diamond Dagger for services to the genre throughout a career spanning over 20 years
